The Least Among You- A DVD review

The Least Among You is film written and directed by Mark Young. It's a story of a young man who is falsely arrested and faces prison. He is offered an alternative. Attend a all white seminary on probation for two semesters. The story is  based on the actually events of real life minister Richard Kelly portrayed by Cedric Sanders. So many layers to explore in this story.  It should be a much better film.  However the filmmakers missed opportunites to deepen the story and I was left disappointed by the telling.
One thing obvious in the movie is the faith of Richard's Mother. However other than a few short scenes in the beginning we don't see her again. We learn from brief phone conversations with Richard his younger brother disturbing news about their mother. Yet we don't see her again. A missed opportunity.

Two scenes in the movie depict brutal acts of violence. Based on that, I wouldn't recommend it for children of any age. Especially when one act of violence is against a child. All the violence against Richard was perpetrated by other African Americans. It was if the film maker was saying, his problem was really with his own people and environment, not the blatant racism at the school. That made me uncomfortable.

The film is however well acted with gifted people like Louis Gossett Jr., William DeVane and Lauren Holly. Ms. Holly's performance was incredible. I wanted to know more about her character and the pain she suffered. Yet once again a missed opportunity and more disappointment.

Let's Do Lunch by Roger Troy Wilson, Thomas Nelson Publisher

Let's Do Lunch, by Roger Troy Wilson published by Thomas Nelson Publishers

This book is about how Roger Wilson changed the way he ate and changed his life. Reducing his massive 425 pound body by losing 230 pounds and keeping it off for over 15 years.

The first thing you need to know about the book is that the author isn't making a dime from it. All the proceeds are donated towards organizations that spread the gospel. That should tell you something about Roger Troy Wilson. So now that we know that this book was written with the best intentions, to help us weary dieters learn how to lose weight and keep it off.

Like all big eaters and food lovers I wanted a quick easy fix. This isn't one but I became more encouraged as I continued reading. Mr. Wilson's plan is not dependant on exercise but he does advise it. Nor do you have to measure your food or count calories. You do have to make wise choices and he shows how to do that in an easy going friendly manner.

I love that the book includes letters and recipes from others who have adopted Mr. Wilson's way of eating. I think most will find his tips safe and effective. I also love that he thought of free style dieters who hate being told exactly what to eat. However he also included a 14 day meal guide for those who prefer more structure.

The book gives a list of foods to avoid but tell you how to deal with eating out, and fast food. There is a long list of items you might want to add to your pantry. I have made some changes to my way of eating. Thanks to Roger I am on my way to a healthier life style. What better recommendation can I give than that?
